Reflect upon the differences of face-to-face and electronic meetings. What will you do to be a better face-to-face participant? What will you do to be a better electronic meeting participant?
The big difference between face-to-face meetings and electronic meetings, is that electronic meetings are a bit less personal. You are not able to shake hands with the person you are meeting with, and the personality traits you bring with to face-to-face meetings will be harder to read through an electronic meeting. To be a better face-to-face participant, I will make sure I am actively listening, and remember to engage with the other participant in a polite formal manner. This is the same with electronic meetings you have to be an active listener, make sure that your communication is clear and formal.
To become a better face-to-face meeting participant, I will try to concentrate on what the other person is saying and really try to understand. It is all part of active listening. I will also pay more attention to my body language and how I am presenting myself. I do the same with electronic meetings, but I will limit my distractions from the environment I am in.
In face to face meeting, I need to watch my body language and control my emotion as people can read us through our body language as we can read others from the way they present themselves. In electronic meeting, I need to pay more attention to active listening and really understand what people are trying to communicate. I also need to choose my words carefully when I speak as people might misunderstand the points I am trying to convey.
To be a better face-to-face meeting participant I will be prepared and arrive on time. I will try to give my full attention to the meeting. I will be courteous to others, actively listen without judging, offer positive contributions, and not monopolizing the discussion. As an electronic meeting participant, I will demonstrate these same responsibilities. In an electronic meeting, I will need to remember to identify myself and to make sure I talk clearly and loud enough for all to hear.
Virtual and face-to-face meeting are similar, yet they remain a polar opposite. In a face-to-face meeting, I realize that I do fidget which can hurt my chance at gaining employment. I would like to add that for people in general who uses virtual meeting that they need to realize that while sounds are continuous during the break in video, it breaks the listener's concentration. Anytime during the video conference, a speaker need to pause in between the sentence.
