Currently, I need to take the time to change my passwords after reading this portion of the chapter. I am going to include numbers to be used as letters (1 for I or 3 for E), include more upper and lower case letters, and stray away from personal information in them (i.e. dog's name).
Usually I delete email received from someone I don't know. I also check the attachments if they are safe to open. In the future, I need to be careful when I search the internet and click a link on the website as it might be spyware. I also need to start checking my credit report periodically as I have never done this before.
I made it a habit of taking my friend's advice years ago, never to open any email from someone you don't know. Thinking back to several years ago, I've had an experience working with a lawyer and bank electronically. They explained to me their policy and how they include it as an attachment with password protection included in the email which gave me a peace of mind, knowing that it came from them and not from a spammer.
I do not open e-mails from people I do not know or respond to request for personal information. I try to be very selective of what I download. I consulted with my computer technician on anti-virus programs and internet programs (i.e. Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.). I began using on-line banking this year, but I still do not use my phone for banking. To reduce my risk further, I need to change my passwords and check my credit report more frequently.
I realized that I need to change my passwords more often, and not use the same passwords for everything. I have found myself giving out my password to my co-workers so they are able to log into my computer when I am not in the office. I also need to click the "no" to saving of passwords when prompted and by internet explore.
