Managing stress can be difficult.  Add a new post that explains how this chapter has helped you think about how you manage stress and in what ways you deal with stress?

  1. Managing stress can be difficult, but like the video that was showed to us in class today having an outside life out of work or school o anything can help out a lot. Just by walking, going out and having some fresh air can help. From now on ill start walking a lot more and maybe doing some other things to help that bad stress go away!

  2. Prior history with physical effects of stress taught me how to better manage how I deal with the stress triggers. This chapter reminded me of the ways to deal with stress, some I remember and still do, others I will need to start doing again. This chapter (and Debbie) reminded me that it's all about me! I need to do those things that nurture me and help me be better. Doing those things that make me feel better, such as exercise, spending time with family and friends, will help me control my stress and ultimately make me a better person and employee.

  3. I am glad we got the chance to watch this video in class. I am one stressful person. I am always on the go and I do not have time for myself. I know now how to deal with the stress and what I can determine the difference between good and bad stress. I can already tell you that I have already missed major milestones in my friends and family's life. Now I realize what stress can do not only to myself but my peers, family, and friends. This video was an eye opener to me!

  4. In order to keep myself more organized and on top of my priorities, I recently adopted a new planning system. I used to make one gigantic To-Do list that seemed never-ending. I would refer back to the list a few time a day and just the length of it was overwhelming. After learning more about time and stress management, I started making two or three To-Do lists at a time. I have a "Must Get Done Before..." list, a list of exactly what homework assignments I have to finish during scheduled times on at least 3 different days, and a "Should Probably Do if I Enjoy Feeling Organized and Wearing Clean Clothes" list. It sounds complicated, but I find it much easier to cross off the items on my lists once they are really, REALLY prioritized. I also set most of my clock a few minutes ahead and have been able to manage my time much easier!

  5. This chapter taught me that to manage stress, I need to find out what causes my stress. There are different ways how I deal with my stress. Most of the time, I will call my sister or my best friend and share with them what makes me stress. I will feel relieved after I talk. Sometimes, I will read a book; the book will take my mind away from my stress. Once in a while, I will go to the mall. While window shopping, I feel that I can forget my stress.

  6. This chapter has helped me understand that sometimes doing things for myself, is also relieving my stress and I shouldn't feel guilty about it. My favorate way to deal with stress is my reading goal. I set a goal to read a certain amount of books for the year, and everytime I finish a book moving me closer to my goal I feel a bit better.

  7. The video helped me realize that I have accomplished most of the steps on managing stress, except that I do need to challenge myself by jogging more and walking less during the two-mile morning jog. I love the fact that a man in the video enjoys working on a car with his father, because it reminds me of my husband's love of restoring old cars. We have a 1968 VW Beetle which is sitting in our yard as a rust bucket and a home for rabbits. Our goal is to move the car into our garage and let my dear husband work on it.

  8. This chapter has helped me to realize that there is a healthy and bad stress. In the past few months I dealt with as much stress, that one would deal with over time. My mother-in-law passed away un-expectantly and dealing with her death has been nothing but stress. We had just talked with her prior to her death and had been planning a trip to Colorado, our plan was to drive to the Quad Cities and spend the night with her and head out the next day. We had been trying to get a hold of her and had not gotten a returned called, not too worried, she was one that would go on little trips and call and say that she is here or there, after three days of not hearing from her we started to get a little worried. We received the call that she has passed away and had been gone for three days. What a nightmare and rush of stress, work for me was gruesome, I was pulling in extra hours to cover the reception, we had taken on new clients and a few of my other co-worker's were on vacation. Trying to help with everything with my family but also staying on top of my work flow. We were traveling every other day to make sure we were getting things done that needed attention. I believe I was running on pure adrenaline for two weeks. We managed to get her cleared out of her apartment, funeral arrangements and two weeks later our trip to Colorado. We distressed by laughing, saying that I-80 knew our tires and headed us on our way to Colorado.

  9. If it is in your circle of control, find a way to deal with it, if not let it go. Most of the stress currently in my life is not in my circle of control. I learned from tonight class that I have to learn to let to go which I know will be difficult for me to do. I am going to make an effort to find a way to let go and focus on what I can do to improve myself.

  10. This chapter has taught me to find the root of the problem, and then I can think of solutions to make it less stressful. I felt rushed before I left for work, and next time I am going to plan more transition time. Some things are out of my control, and I am going to make the effort to let it go!
